Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic method that is both simple and effective in healing cells, tissues, and organs. This technique supports the body’s elimination of toxic waste without disturbing healthy micro flora.  Oil pulling breaks up bio-film, stimulates metabolism, and activates enzymes that draw toxins out of tissue and blood. As the oil mixes with the saliva and binds toxins, the liquid becomes thinner. Dental health benefits can include tissue detoxification, improved gum health, reduced gum bleeding, and significant teeth whitening.

There are several reasons I like oil pulling.  First is that it appears to be helping to keep my teeth white.  Another thing is that even though I brush and floss each night my morning oil pulling usually loosens up a few more food particles that I missed.  It makes my teeth feel clean and my lips feel moisturized.   Staying and getting healthy is time consuming.  Depending on the state of a person's health it can be the equivalent of a part time job.  Oil pulling takes no time because I can be doing other things at the same time.  I have had clients with allergies that say it has been very helpful to them for drawing out mucous and decreasing congestion.

How to do oil pulling:
• Upon awakening, on an empty stomach, place one tablespoon of cold pressed, organic coconut oil into your mouth (before brushing your teeth) and swish for 15-20 minutes.
• Relax your jaw and use your tongue to help move the oil around the mouth.
• The first day you may not last 20 minutes. Oil pull for as long as you are able. You will find that you can comfortably build up to 20 minutes within days.
• After 20 minutes, spit it into the trash.  Spit repeatedly. (Do not spit into the sink, it will clog.)
• Rinse with warm water, and brush your teeth.
• Oil pulling can be repeated later in the day on an empty stomach.
• Perform daily for a minimum of two weeks, then resume as needed.  (I have been doing it almost every day for years.)
